Layflat Bag (Poly-Tubing)

Polythene lay-flat bags (sometimes known as Poly-tubing) are normally used in the mushroom industry to create straw substrate columns.

Fully transparent to allow monitoring of mycelial growth and strong enough to be suspended from structures with minimal stretching. Can also be used as a humidity tent for smaller home grows.

We offer 3 different sizes of bag diameter, all are made from premium 500 gauge polythene – twice as thick as 250 gauge found elsewhere.

Note that the sizes we sell are the width of the lay-flat bags when flat. If using them for growing mushrooms on straw columns, you can use the info below to gauge what size lay-flat you need for a given column diameter.

12 inch lay-flat bag = 7.6 inch column diameter
16 inch lay-flat bag = 10.2 inch column diameter
20 inch lay-flat bag = 12.7 inch column diameter

Columns with a diameter of over 13 inches can be susceptible to over-heating and poor air exchange in the central core of the column, creating an anaerobic environment for bacteria to blossom, resulting in significant yield loss.

We use 20 inch layflat bag in our operation and find that to be perfect; the larger diameter the easier they are to fill but the heavier they are to lift – a 1 meter, 12.7 inch column of wet straw can weigh up to 24kg.

Larger orders will come on a roll, smaller orders will be folded.
