Founded in 2018, Maya Mushrooms has grown into one of the UK’s most trusted suppliers of mushroom cultivation materials. With a loyal customer base, strong brand reputation, and fully equipped facilities, the business is ready to scale in a growing market with rising demand for gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.

Overview

In 2024, a key investor pulled out at the last minute, leaving us overcommitted to two large-scale facilities. Despite a strong foundation and increasing demand, we’ve been unable to secure the right partner to support the next stage of development.

After much consideration, we’ve decided to put Maya Mushrooms up for sale and are open to offers. Our aim is to see the business continue to thrive and to make the purchase more accessible, we can offer flexible payment terms – including staggered pay-outs, spreading the sale of the business over time rather than paid upfront, easing cash-flow and allowing space to invest in setup or growth.

The founder, Paul, is happy to stay on to provide support, advice, and ongoing guidance, if needed, in any capacity – helping ensure a smooth transition and continued success.

Although based in the Forest of Dean, all equipment, inventory, and infrastructure can be packed up and relocated to your own premises if preferred. We’re happy to assist with logistics and setup as part of the sale agreement.

Our long-term aim has always been to transition into a non-profit focused on supporting growers, sustainability, and education. That vision remains available to the next owner – but continuing as a for-profit venture is equally viable and valuable. Either path will play a key role in strengthening the UK gourmet and medicinal mushroom sector. We have full financial projections and a business plan to support the new owner.

Maya Mushrooms has been a labour of love. When we moved the business to the Forest of Dean, we committed to expanding into much larger facilities with the backing of a core investor. Unfortunately, that investor withdrew at the last minute, leaving us to shoulder the full commitment ourselves.

Our vision was to transition Maya Mushrooms into a non-profit, focused on making high-quality mushroom cultivation materials more accessible and sustainable. Despite our best efforts, securing the investment needed to take this next step has proved challenging.

After working 100-hour weeks for the past 5 or 6 years to keep driving the business forward, I’ve come to the decision that it’s time for a break and a change of pace.

Maya Mushrooms is a business with huge potential in a growing market, and I’d love to see someone take it to its true potential, whether that’s an investor, a small team of passionate individuals, or both. I’m fully committed to supporting the transition and ensuring the business continues to thrive under new ownership.

Maya has always been rooted in purpose, not just profit. I’m proud of what we’ve built and hopeful for what’s to come. The future of fungi is just getting started. ❤️

Facilities

Our facilities provide a standout foundation for growth. We operate from two adjoining, purpose-built warehouse units in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, totalling 8,500 sq.ft. of production-ready space.

Fully equipped for bulk sterilisation, substrate and grain production, fruiting block production, culture, spawn & tincture production, order fulfilment and packing. The site is ideal for mushroom cultivation, product innovation, and diversification.

Ideal for scaling operations into new mushroom-based products.

Whilst we have great facilities here, all infrastructure can be relocated to your existing or planned facilities as part of the sale.
