Golden Oyster Mushrooms

The Golden Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus citrinopileatus), known as tamogitake in Japan or simply as the ‘Yellow Oyster Mushroom’, is a popular cultivated and wild-harvested mushroom strain. As the name suggests, the Golden Oyster mushrooms produce beautiful bright yellow to golden caps with ivory white stems.

With their complex yet mild nutty flavour resembling cashews when cooked and the subtle yet distinctive fruity smell of aged red wine, the Golden Oyster mushrooms are a great addition in soups, creamy sauces, stir-fries or used in braised dishes or curries. They have been known for hundreds of years to provide exceptional health benefits. Our Golden Oysters are a meaty textured mushroom with a melt-in-the-mouth quality, perfect for home cultivation in warmer months.

Grown on UK harvested straw, supplemented with organic grains and spent coffee grounds from local cafes, our Oyster mushrooms are harvested at an optimal time just before full maturity to maximise their flavours and preserve their nutritional qualities. Each of our Golden Oyster mushrooms takes 30-40 days to grow.

Storage and Shelf-Life

Our Golen Oyster mushrooms are the most delicate of all mushrooms we grow. Handle and transport them with care to avoid damaging them.

It has a shelf life of 3-5 days (when stored correctly in the bottom vegetable drawer of a fridge in a paper bag).

Best eaten immediately after purchase for optimal enjoyment.

Mushrooms should never be stored in plastic bags as the plastic can rapidly deteriorate the mushroom’s flesh.

TIP: To extend the shelf life of your mushrooms, you can place a damp paper towel (just damp, not wet) in the bottom of the paper bag when you put your mushrooms in the fridge, this will prevent your mushrooms drying out.
